Top things to do in Amsterdam in June

Top things to do in Amsterdam in June

Here at We Are Amsterdam, June is one of our favourite months in the city. The nights are longer (making June the perfect time to enjoy a Booze Cruise in the evening!), the sunlit terraces are packed with locals enjoying a couple of drinks and the weather is warm enough to while away the afternoon’s in one of the city’s parks. In addition to the brilliant weather (Amsterdam always looks even more beautiful with a bit of sun!), there are plenty of things to do in Amsterdam during the month of June.

In addition, a number of outdoor events are starting to pop up across Amsterdam, as the summer really kicks off in style. At the very start of the month, Rollende Keukens is still in full swing (29th May – 2nd June). This fantastic food festival based around hundreds of food trucks with a street-food theme takes place in trendy Westerpark and is the perfect way to start the month. Westerpark is also a fantastic spot to chill out in during the summer and, on a sunny evening, is extremely popular with locals who come here for a BBQ and a couple of beers. In addition to regular festivals and events taking place in the park, there are a selection of bars (such as Radio Radio) and the Westerunie which hosts techno nights (and shows big sporting events from time to time). If you’re wanting to check out a great local place, Westerpark is definitely worth visiting.

For those who fancy enjoying a BBQ in the warm June weather, why not upgrade it to a truly unique Amsterdam experience and enjoy a BBQ Booze Cruise. With unlimited booze, plenty of delicious BBQ favourites (sausages, burgers etc), check out our Amsterdam BBQ Booze Cruise.

The Red-Light District is Amsterdam’s most infamous neighbourhood and has always attracted crowds of tourists. However, the Red-Light District (known by locals as De Wallen) is so much more than prostitutes and weed and is an area with a rich history and cultural significance to the Dutch capital. The Red-Light Jazz Festival is an annual event that celebrates Amsterdam’s importance to the Jazz genre and occurs on the first weekend of June. This brilliant event shows a more sophisticated and cultured perspective from within the infamous sex-and-drug-fuelled centre of the city. If you want to learn more about this neighbourhood and its unique history, check out our self-guided Red-Light iPad Tour.

For those wanting to enjoy a classic summer festival with a magical twist, Mystic Garden’ has become a highlight of Amsterdam’s summer line-up. This brilliant festival takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Sloterpark which, although a short distance from the centre of town, feels a world away. With a chilled out, mystical vibe, this is certainly a festival to check out for those visiting the city in June. Sloterpark is also a great place to take a dip on a summer’s day – when the sun comes out, locals head to the ‘Zwemstrand Sloterplas’, an artificial beach where you can enjoy a game of beach volleyball or take a refreshing swim in the water!

Whatever you do, get out and enjoy Amsterdam in June!

If you’re visiting the city and looking for things to do in Amsterdam in June, getting out and about in the city is key! Being one of the best months (in terms of weather) and still without the crowds of tourists that come in July & August, it’s a great time to get active. Jump on a bike, scooter or typical amsterdam boat and enjoy basking in the sunshine in the beautiful centre. You really can’t beat Amsterdam’s canal belt on a sunny day, and relaxing on a terrace with a cold beer in hand is one of the city’s greatest pleasures. Whatever you choose to get up to in the city, relax, enjoy the sunshine (which will hopefully make plenty of appearances throughout June!) and have a brilliant time!
